This years Brighton Festival 2017 will take place from 6th – 28th May with Kate Tempest as the Guest Director who will present the Opening Gig of music and spoken word for the festival at the Brighton Dome on Saturday 6th May (6:30pm) and said ‘I believe that art is social. It should be a part of life. No big deal – just life itself.’
During the three weeks of this festival, Brighton’s annual celebration of art, circus, dance, debate, film, literature, family and outdoor events the City will be full of wonderful theatrical and artistic creations for all to enjoy including twenty seven free events and over one hundred events and performances including ‘Weekend Without Walls’ a free outdoor dance, music and theatre event on Saturday 13th in Easthill Park of Portslade and East Park of Whitehawk on Sunday 14th and ‘Storytelling Army’ where Nabokov present extraordinary storytelling performances from all walks of life across the city of Brighton between Friday 26th and Sunday 28th May.
As the name suggests, ‘For the Birds’ is inspired by birds and set in a Sussex Woodland location as night falls. This is a Brighton Festival exclusive outdoor and not to be missed event suitable for ages with timed entry slots from the 6th – 28th May(8:30pm – 11:30pm) This epic event will be an immersive night-time experience for family and friends full of ingenious and beautifully illuminated installations and moving sculptures along an adventurous trail against a canvas of darkness.
Created by Mark Anderson, Jony Easterby, Kathy Hinde, Ulf Pederson and Pippa Taylor this unique creation has been described by the RSPB as ‘Beautiful unexpected and alive!’ The public can travel by shuttle bueses from Asda Hollingbury and there is a limited bus service from the Old Steine.
